Privacy Policy

Last updated 13 September 2026

Short version: this site runs Google Analytics and nothing else. It stays switched off until you press Accept, and you can switch it back off at any time from the link in the footer. There are no ads and no advertising trackers. One thing worth knowing up front: the live crawler demo talks to Wikipedia directly from your browser, so Wikipedia sees those requests. That is explained below.

Who runs this site

This site is operated personally by Kevin Solorzano in West Orange, New Jersey, USA. It is a portfolio piece built around a 2018 university assignment, not a commercial service. For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, write to solorzke@gmail.com.

What is collected

Only Google Analytics 4, and only after you consent. If you decline, or simply ignore the banner, no analytics code loads at all and no cookies are written.

When analytics is enabled, two cookies are stored in your browser:

And the following is sent to Google:

This site has no accounts, no forms and no sign-up. It never asks for your name or email.

The live crawler demo

The Live crawler tab runs entirely in your browser. When you start a crawl, your browser requests pages from Wikipedia's public MediaWiki API directly. Those requests go from you to Wikipedia, not through any server of mine, which means the Wikimedia Foundation receives your IP address and the articles you fetched, under their own privacy policy.

I never see the results of your crawl, and nothing from it is stored or transmitted anywhere else. It exists and disappears in your browser tab. This behaviour is not covered by the cookie banner because it only happens when you deliberately press the button to start a crawl, and it sets no cookies.

The 2018 archive tab is different: it reads a static JSON file served from this site and makes no external requests at all.

Why

To see roughly how many people visit and whether anyone tries the demo. That is the whole purpose. The data is not used to build a profile of you, is never used for advertising, and is never sold or shared.

Google's advertising features are explicitly switched off on this property: ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization and personalization_storage are denied at all times, whether or not you consent to analytics.

Legal basis and your rights

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the legal basis for this processing is your consent, given by pressing Accept. You can withdraw it at any moment with the cookie settings link, which also deletes the analytics cookies from your browser. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent and carries no penalty.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, or to receive a copy. Under the CCPA and CPRA, California residents additionally have the right to know what is collected and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. No personal information is sold or shared, so there is nothing to opt out of, but the analytics opt-out is available to everyone regardless.

To exercise any of these, email solorzke@gmail.com. Because the analytics data is not tied to a name or an email address, you may need to tell me roughly when you visited so the right records can be found.

Who else sees it

Google, as the analytics provider, acting as a processor on my behalf. Their handling is governed by the Google Privacy & Terms and the Google Ads Data Processing Terms. Google may process this data on servers in the United States.

The Wikimedia Foundation, but only for the live crawler demo, and only when you start one, as described above.

The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting, also a Google service. Like any web server, it keeps standard request logs for security and reliability.

Nobody else. No advertising networks, no data brokers, no social media pixels, no session recording, no heatmaps.

How long it is kept

Analytics records are retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically by Google. The cookies in your browser expire after 2 years, or immediately if you withdraw consent or clear your browser data.

Children

This site is a technical portfolio piece aimed at employers and other developers. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change with it. If the change affects what is collected, the consent banner will reappear so you can make a fresh choice.

Opting out elsewhere

Besides the cookie settings on this site, you can install Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which blocks Google Analytics across every site you visit. Most browsers also let you block or clear cookies directly.
